Cameron County commissioners are weighing in on two more politically-charged national issues that specifically impact the Rio Grande Valley. The commissioners court Tuesday passed two resolutions – one, voicing their opposition to President Trump’s proposed border wall, and the second, urging Congress to work out a solution to protect the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

In standing against the border wall, commissioners sided with opponents who claim the massive project would cause irreversible destruction of wildlife preserves along the Rio Grande.

Earlier this summer, the Cameron County Commission went on record against the state’s new sanctuary cities law – becoming one of the first local governments to join the lawsuit seeking to overturn SB-4 on constitutional grounds.
