Coronavirus Cases Increase To 8 In Hidalgo County

Six Hidalgo County residents tested positive for the coronavirus in a 24-hour period from Tuesday to Wednesday, and one of those people is Mission City Councilman Alberto Vela. Vela released a statement Wednesday disclosing that he learned late Tuesday night that his test for COVID-19 came back positive. Vela says he feels fatigued but has not suffered any other symptoms of the virus.

Hidalgo County health officials say it appears Vela contracted the virus while traveling outside of the county. They continue to trace where all of the other individuals contracted the virus, and are tracking down everyone who had contact with them.

County Judge Richard Cortez says the increase is a result of increased testing, and says residents should be aware that many more cases will be reported in the coming days. Hidalgo County is now reporting eight cases of coronavirus.
