Local Hospitals Put Out Call For Needed Personal Protective Equipment

Anticipating a likely surge in the number of coronavirus patients in the Valley over the next few weeks, at least two local hospitals say they’re already seeing a shortage of equipment and supplies.  Valley Baptist and Valley Regional medical centers say as the number of COVID-19 cases rise, supplies of necessary equipment are dropping.  The Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society is looking for sources for those supplies and will be hosting a donation drive this week for the following personal protection equipment – gowns, surgical masks, N95 masks, face shields, and disposable gloves.  The donation drive is this Wednesday and Thursday at the Hidalgo-Starr County Medical Society office across Ridge Road from Rio Grande Regional Hospital.
