Masks, Face Coverings Being Required In More Valley Cities

At least four Valley cities and one county have begun ordering residents to wear masks or some sort of face covering when out in public.

The cities of Mercedes, Mission, Edinburg, Palmview, and Elsa are enforcing the new restrictions, as is Starr County. Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez has indicated he may sign a modified shelter-at-home order this week that will add the mask mandate.

The orders require their residents to wear a mask or any kind of fabric that covers the nose and mouth when going into another building or conducting business in public. Officials say a medical mask is not required, and they suggest a bandanna or scarf is sufficient.
