The Rio Grande City school district has made the decision to cancel on-campus classes for the remainder of the school year. The decision was made Thursday, shortly after Starr County officials disclosed the first confirmed cases of coronavirus.

School Superintendent Vilma Garza, in a letter to parents, wrote that the district will continue to provide online distance learning for students, as well as curbside meal service. The letter also urged parents and students to abide by the county’s stay at home order and to practice the CDC’s recommended health and safety guidelines.
