The Pentagon is issuing a stop movement order for U.S. troops overseas for up to 60 days due to the coronavirus outbreak. This means all U.S. service members overseas or currently scheduled to deploy from the U.S. will stay in their current locations for the next 60 days.
In an interview with Reuters, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper is issuing the order in an effort to limit the spread of the virus through the ranks of the military. Esper said the order applies to all U.S. forces, civilian personnel and families. However, there will be some exceptions such as the drawdown of troops in Afghanistan and naval vessels scheduled to return to the US.
