Road In Edinburg To Be Named In Honor Of Slain Trooper


A 7-mile stretch of North 10th Street in Edinburg is being re-named in honor of Valley DPS Trooper Moises Sanchez.

Hidalgo County commissioners have passed a resolution to re-name as Trooper Moises Sanchez Boulevard the segment of North 10th Street from University Drive to Monte Cristo Road. Sanchez was shot in the head after chasing down a suspect who had fled after crashing his pickup truck the night of April 6th. Sanchez underwent several surgeries before succumbing to the debilitating head wound August 24th.

The suspect, 24-year-old Victor Alejandro Godinez of Edinburg, is charged with capital murder. A date for the road re-naming ceremony is to be announced soon.
