The police chief of Alton is out – amid accusations of sexual harassment. Chief Enrique Sotelo was terminated Friday, a little more than two weeks after he’d been placed on administrative leave following a sexual harassment complaint filed by a department employee.

In a statement from Alton City Manager Jorge Arcaute, an internal investigation found that Sotelo exhibited behavior that constitutes sexual harassment, and that Sotelo created and allowed a hostile working environment.

Sotelo had been Alton’s police chief for 8 years. Captain Jose Perez has been named interim police chief while the city conducts a search for a new permanent chief.
