South Padre Island, Port Isabel Beef Up Stay-At-Home Enforcement

You never hear this from any elected official in South Padre Island, but Mayor Pat McNulty is telling everyone in the Valley – to stay away. And the city is enforcing that declaration with police checkpoints at the entrance to the Island. And besides limiting traffic into the city, additional cameras are being installed to monitor traffic as well as activity on the beaches. McNulty says anyone found in violation of Cameron County’s shelter-in-place order will be cited.

Across the Causeway in Port Isabel, city leaders have also added tougher enforcement measures than are in the county’s emergency order. Mayor J.J. Zamora has issued a proclamation barring any new rental agreements, closing boat ramps, and limiting to 2 the number of people who can be together in a vehicle or boat, or be in a grocery store or other building. Port Isabel police will also set up checkpoints throughout the town.
