Suspected Trooper Shooter Pleads Not Guilty To Capital Murder Charge

The Edinburg man accused of shooting Valley DPS Trooper Moises Sanchez has pleaded not guilty to a charge of capital murder and to two separate charges of attempted capital murder. 24-year-old Victor Alejandro Godinez was arraigned on the charges Monday morning – contained in two indictments stemming from the night Trooper Sanchez was shot in the head. Godinez is under a capital murder indictment in Sanchez’ death.

Godinez is charged in a separate indictment with attempted capital murder for allegedly shooting at the two Edinburg police officers who eventually captured him.

The capital murder indictment was handed up a little more than two weeks ago, and about a month after Sanchez died. Sanchez succumbed to the debilitating gunshot wound August 24th, a day after undergoing an additional surgery to repair the wound. He’d been shot April 6th after confronting Godinez who had run away after crashing his pickup truck in McAllen.
