Connections with a curendero were what led to the murder of a Weslaco doctor two months ago, and eventually to the arrests of three men. Weslaco police announced the arrests Friday while detailing the investigation into the November 7th death of Dr. John Jesus Dominguez.
Officials told reporters that Dominguez had had a conversation with a curendero, who relayed what was said to one of the suspects, prompting a plot to kidnap Dominguez. But the attempted kidnapping turned into a murder. As Dominguez tried to speed away from a parking lot, one of the suspects opened fire, shooting him in the leg and causing him to collide with another car on Business 83.
Police say Dominguez died from injuries suffered in the crash. It’s not yet clear what the connection was among Dr. Dominguez, the three suspects, and the curendero. All three suspects remain jailed on bonds of at least $1 million.
