Texas public school classrooms may soon have the Ten Commandments posted. Lawmakers spent over two hours debating before passing Senate Bill 10, 88 to 49 on second reading Saturday.
The bill passed despite challenges from Democratic lawmakers. House Republicans rejected attempts to allow school boards to vote on having the Ten Commandments in classrooms and having codes of ethics from other religions join the Ten Commandments on school walls.
If the bill passes it would require schools to post a “durable poster or framed copy” of the Ten Commandments in every classroom.
