Texas Legislature Moves To Toughen Requirements For Election Transparency

0

Texas lawmakers are moving to impose stiff fines on local governments that don’t post campaign finance reports online as required by law. The posting requirements took effect nearly two years ago in an effort to make election spending more transparent.

Many school district leaders didn’t know they were out of compliance until contacted by the media. The law as passed lacks sufficient enforcement, so the legislature is working on a new bill that would have the Texas Ethics Commission fine local governments up to 25-hundred dollars for each day they’re out of compliance.
