The superintendent of the Mercedes school district is apologizing after being arrested for driving while intoxicated.
Benjamin Clinton was arrested by state troopers in Los Fresnos last Friday. Investigators say Clinton smelled strongly of alcohol and that several liquor bottles were found in his vehicle.
Clinton issued a statement Tuesday, saying he recognized the “turmoil and disappointment” that followed his arrest and that it doesn’t reflect his values as a person or a leader.
The school board met privately Tuesday night to discuss Clinton’s employment where they ultimately decided to place him on administrative leave with pay according to Mercedes ISD Board President Marcos Garcia.
