The former president of the Progreso School Board is heading to prison for his role in a cocaine smuggling scheme. Francisco “Frank” Alanis was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years behind bars Tuesday.

Alanis was arrested in 2023 as part of an investigation into a cocaine smuggling conspiracy. Alanis agreed to a plea deal in February, admitting to providing financial support to the group but denying that he had a larger role in managing the drug smuggling effort.
