Governor Greg Abbott says that when the Texas Legislature wraps up its current special session on Friday, he will immediately call another special session.

Abbott made the announcement on Tuesday, along with Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and House Speaker Dustin Burrows. The House has been unable to pass bills in the absence of dozens of Democrats who fled the state to prevent a vote on a new redistricting map favored by the GOP.

Democrats have reportedly said they plan to return for the second session, but say they’ll insist the Legislature focus on passing flood relief bills.
