A Harlingen man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for a death that happened last year.

Juan Antonio Hernandez was arrested in February of 2024 after a woman was injured jumping from his car near Harrison Avenue and FM 509.

Amanda Hernandez died from her injuries after she was taken to the hospital. Hernandez allegedly told investigators that he was unable to keep her from jumping from the vehicle, and that he drove away from the scene because he feared authorities wouldn’t believe him. He eventually pleaded guilty to a charge of collision involving death.
