The retrial of a man accused of killing a beloved H-E-B deli worker is underway. Opening statements took place Tuesday in the retrial of R.C. Curtis, who is charged with murdering 75-year-old Paula Boyd inside her San Antonio apartment in 2015.

Curtis’ first trial ended in a mistrial in 2021. During opening statements, the jury was shown graphic photos of the crime scene. Curtis’ attorneys have claimed that there were other suspects involved in Boyd’s murder and that Curtis is taking the fall for them.
