A veteran Democratic congressman from Texas says he won’t run for reelection in 2026 if the Republicans’ redistricting plan is upheld in court. US Representative Lloyd Doggett made the announcement last Thursday, the day after the Texas House passed the new congressional map.
Doggett and his fellow Austin Democrat Greg Casar were drawn into the same district under the new map. The elder congressman says he’ll stand aside and not challenge Casar in the 2026 primary. The Texas Senate passed the new map on Saturday, and it’s already the subject of a lawsuit.
