Kerr County officials say it may not be safe to use the Guadalupe River for recreational purposes as cleanup continues after last month’s floods.

The Upper Guadalupe River Authority says debris in the water is dangerous for boaters and swimmers. Kerr County Commissioners said in Monday’s meeting that they can’t “responsibly” tell the public it’s safe to use the river.

A Kerrville city spokesperson says the public is still advised to stay out of the water. But Sheriff Larry Leitha says they’re not prohibited from using the river.
