The City of Progreso will have to begin a new search for a police chief. The city announced last month that police officer David Hernandez had been selected for the post.
Hernandez announced Wednesday that he would not be able to take the position due to personal medical reasons. He went on to say that the city needed to hire someone with the availability to fully carry out the duties of police chief.
City officials say Hernandez had been offered the position but had not started working as chief.
