A Colombian man has been found not guilty of entering the United States illegally. A federal judge in McAllen handed down his ruling in the case Wednesday.
Twenty-two-year-old Jesus Miguel Pacheco Gamarra was arrested near Roma last month. Prosecutors charged Gamarra with entering the U.S. illegally, but his attorney argued that there was no evidence to support the charge. U.S.
Magistrate Judge J. Scott Hacker agreed with the defense, dropping the charge against Gamarra. The defendant is still in federal custody on an immigration detainer and is likely to be deported.
