Hidalgo County will no longer allow the sale of non-livestock animals along roadsides and in parking lots.

The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court approved an order banning the practice Tuesday. Anyone caught violating the order can be charged with a Class C misdemeanor.

A press release from the county said the action was taken to protect public safety, animal welfare and quality of life.
