Texas Democrats in the running for statewide races in 2026 are trying to reestablish their brand as the party of the working class.
In a recent interview, state Representative James Talarico said the Democrats are “the party of the New Deal and the Great Society,” referring to policies from the previous century.
Talarico said the national Democratic Party in particular has lost touch with the working class, which is flocking to the Republicans.
Talarico’s rivals in the Democratic primary for the US Senate, former US Representative Colin Allred and retired astronaut Terry Virts, have commented on the same situation.
