Texas Senator Ted Cruz says the federal government shutdown is being prolonged because his Democratic colleague Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is being pulled by the progressive wing of his party.
The Republican compared this government funding negotiation to one earlier this year. Cruz also says Democratic-led states could pass socialized healthcare immediately, but haven’t because of the exorbitant costs.
Democrats have held firm in their stance of wanting to see healthcare subsidies preserved as a sticking point for any conversation about making a deal to end the shutdown.
