Travis County Commissioners are giving the green light to funding a feasibility study about a passenger train between Austin and San Antonio.

The Commissioners Court gave its unanimous approval on Tuesday to a 125-thousand-dollar contract with an engineering firm to conduct the six-month study. Judge Andy Brown says the idea is to create a route through existing right-of-way, most likely along State Highway 130 and I-10.

Brown says placing the rail route in the right-of-way wouldn’t involve taking much private land.
