Two South Texas newspapers have announced that they are shutting down. La Feria News and Los Fresnos News both plan to cease operations today.

La Feria News has been operating since 1923 and sent out its last weekly edition on Wednesday. The Los Fresnos News has been operating since 2005 and is owned by the same couple that runs the La Feria News.

The owners cited rising expenses and a drop in advertisers as a reason for the closure.
