The Department of Homeland Security is interested in adding Texas driver’s license info to a federal system designed for checking citizenship. DHS contacted Texas officials in June about a pilot program to add the state’s driver license data, but it’s not clear whether the state complied.

The Trump administration is working to pool personal data from different sources in order to identify noncitizens on voter rolls, step up immigration enforcement, and detect fraud in obtaining public benefits.
