North Texas Food Bank is preparing for an expected increase in demand. The ongoing federal shutdown led to the suspension of SNAP benefits on Saturday.

The food bank says 460 thousand North Texas residents rely on food stamps, and half of them are children. The Plano-based nonprofit serves a dozen local counties, including more than 51 thousand individual SNAP recipients in Collin County.
