Texas National Guard troops are reportedly expected to return from Illinois before long.

Governor Greg Abbott last month authorized the federal government’s mobilization of 400 troops from Texas to other states to protect ICE officers carrying out immigration enforcement duties. About 200 Texas Guard troops were in the Chicago area by October 8th.

A federal court ruled that the troops couldn’t be activated, but didn’t have to leave the state. The US Supreme Court is considering the legal dispute between Illinois and the federal government over the issue. The justices asked for more legal briefings by today.
