The Council on American-Islamic Relations is suing Governor Greg Abbott for designating the group a transnational criminal organization. Abbott made the proclamation on Tuesday, also including the Muslim Brotherhood.

On Thursday, Abbott directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to investigate both Islamic groups for possible criminal activity. Later Thursday, CAIR sued Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton, calling the designation “defamatory.” State troopers and the FBI will investigate the two organizations statewide.
