Texas Congressman Lloyd Doggett will not seek reelection after the state’s Supreme Court decided to uphold a new congressional map. Doggett shared his plan to retire next year in a news release and suggested he’ll seek new ways to make a difference.
The Democratic lawmaker warned in his announcement that “more outrageous schemes will follow” with the approval of the new map. It comes after a successful push from Texas GOP lawmakers to change district boundaries within the state to favor Republican candidates and reduce the number of Democrat-held House seats.
