Native American groups are calling for the preservation of an ancient settlement site on Corpus Christi Bay.

Lawyers representing a couple of local tribes want the US Army Corps of Engineers to revoke an unused permit that would allow the construction of an oil terminal on Donnel Point. Archaeologists documented the site in the 1930s, and a local geologist rediscovered it last year.

Hundreds of similar sites once existed around nearby bays, but most of them have been replaced by cities, refineries, and petrochemical plants on the waterfront.
