Brownsville residents will be paying more for water in the new year. Brownsville Public Utilities Board customers will start paying a five percent rate increase today.

Residential customers who use five-thousand gallons a month will see an increase of about three dollars on their bills. Officials say the increase will help pay for the maintenance and growth of the city’s water system.
