A state senator is trying to get support for a plan to spend 100 million dollars to line canals in South Texas.

Democratic Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa is asking water district leaders to request the money from the Texas Water Development Board. Hinojosa says lining the canals could save up to 900-thousand acre-feet of water in the Rio Grande Valley every year.

Hinojosa is asking local leaders to send comments to the TWDB by the February 4th deadline.
