A former Edinburg politiquero who admitted to being part of a bribery scheme has been sentenced to 13 months in federal prison. Miguel Angel Garza pleaded guilty to one count of taking a bribe in 2023.

Investigators say he was involved in a pay-to-play scheme to funnel money from a McAllen-area business owner to officials in the Edinburg government. The 55-year-old was also sentenced to two years of supervised release during yesterday’s hearing.
