At least 13 people are dead across five states as a brutal winter storm pummels much of the nation. Five people were found dead outside in New York City. At least three people were killed in Tennessee with other deaths reported in Arkansas, Kansas, Michigan and Texas.
Almost a million customers, mostly in the South, were without electricity late Sunday as ice and freezing rain took their toll on power lines.
The storm moved into the Northeast Sunday. Widespread closures and delays are expected today and officials are asking people to use common sense if they have to go out.
