Two people are in custody after a confrontational protest outside a federal immigration detention center in South Texas on Wednesday.
A couple of Democratic members of the US Congress, Joaquin Castro of San Antonio and Jasmine Crockett of Dallas, visited the South Texas Family Residential Center in Dilley to check the conditions.
Demonstrators protested the detention of illegal immigrant families, including a man and his five-year-old son who were brought to Texas after being detained in Minnesota. State troopers used pepper balls and tear gas on protesters who refused to disperse. Two of them were arrested.
