Infectious disease experts are warning that two common viruses in animals have the potential to cause the next major health crises. Researchers warn that influenza D and canine coronavirus are increasingly jumping from animals to humans.

The research comes from collaboration from the universities of Texas, Florida, Kentucky and Ohio State University. Researchers warn in the January issue of Emerging Infectious Disease that surveillance for these viruses is lagging. They say this creates a dangerous blind spot, as both viruses are showing signs they could adapt for wider spread among humans.
