Attorney General Ken Paxton says he may drop out of the US Senate race if a couple of conditions are met. Paxton said Thursday he wants Senate GOP leaders to agree to abolish the filibuster and pass a voter ID bill favored by President Donald Trump.

Incumbent Senator John Cornyn supports the SAVE America ACT, but opposes scrapping the filibuster in order to pass it. The bill would require proof of citizenship when people register to vote, and photo ID at the polls. Trump hasn’t endorsed either Paxton or Cornyn in the race.
