At least 100 million people across the eastern half of the U.S. are in the path of a severe weather system today. That includes the potential for damaging winds, hail, and the threat of tornadoes. Severe thunderstorms will also be a concern from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast.

Elsewhere, the Southwest is bracing for an extreme heatwave. The National Weather Service says the Los Angeles area will be hit with an “extremely rare long duration heat wave” starting today, with temperatures up to 35 degrees above normal lasting possibly through Friday.
