Two South Texas school districts are evaluating the possibility of renaming two schools named for Cesar Chavez. The New York Times released a report this week that detailed allegations that the labor and civil rights leader sexually abused women and young girls.
The La Joya school district issued a statement yesterday saying it will begin an open and transparent process to evaluate a possible name change for Cesar Chavez Middle School.
The Pharr-San Juan-Alamo school district also issued a statement saying they were reviewing the matter. Both districts promised updates after students return from Spring Break.
