Cesar Chavez will no longer be part of lessons in Texas public schools. The Texas Education Agency has directed public schools across the state to remove any mentions of Chavez from lesson plans following allegations of sexual abuse that surfaced earlier this month.

Governor Greg Abbott said the state will not observe Cesar Chavez Day at the end of March and is ordering the Texas Legislature to remove the holiday from state law altogether. Governor Abbott called the allegations “horrific” and said Chavez is not worthy of official state celebration.
