Texas will soon start requiring people seeking professional licenses to prove they’re in the country legally. The state’s Commission of Licensing and Regulation unanimously adopted the new rule on Tuesday.

Commissioners made the move after hearing from members of the public opposed to the rule change. The commission oversees the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, which will put the rule into effect on May 1st.
