A man charged with murder in connection to a deadly shooting in downtown McAllen is taking a plea deal.

Hidalgo County officials said 22-year-old Alejandro Gomez was sentenced to 18 years in prison last week after pleading guilty to charges stemming from the death of Ryan Serna.

Serna was killed when shots were fired during a fight at a bar on 17th Street in October 2022. A total of eleven people were charged during the investigation.
