Area leaders are joining together to address water needs in the Rio Grande Valley. The first meeting of the Rio Grande Valley Public Utility Agency was held Thursda in San Benito.

The group will explore regional approaches to help supply water in the area and access state funding for water treatment facilities and other needs.

The mayors of Mercedes, Raymondville, San Benito and Weslaco are part of the group, which plans to meet monthly to discuss current and future projects.
