A Navy sailor is pleading guilty to charges connected to the death of a Brownsville native.

A military court accepted the plea of Culinary Specialist Third Class Jermiah Copeland Tuesday at Virginia’s Naval Station Norfolk.

Copeland admitted to strangling Petty Officer Third Class Angelina Resendiz in his barracks room and then disposing of her body in a wooded area. He pleaded guilty to murder, aggravated assault and three other charges, and is expected to be sentenced today to no less than 40 years and two months in confinement at the Disciplinary Barracks in Kansas.
