Secretary of State Marco Rubio is telling leaders in the Middle East that the U.S. wants peace with Iran but not at “any price.”

Rubio is in Bahrain for a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and is assuring foreign ministers that a peace deal with Iran would take into account the interests of U.S. allies.

He also said that Iran requiring tolls from ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz is unacceptable, and that “if we accept that you can charge money to use an international waterway because it happens to be near your territorial space,” then – according to Rubio – “this will spread throughout the world like a contagion.”
