The latest Census Bureau data says the fertility rate in Texas is falling, but Texans still have more babies than the rest of the United States.
From 2024 to 2025, Texas had about 58 live births for every thousand women of child-bearing age, which tops the national average of about 53. It also beats the fertility rates of other large states such as California, Florida, and New York. But the fertility rate in Texas has been on the decline for nearly 20 years, following a global trend of lower birth rates.
