Texas legislation is contributing to a boom in the manufacture of semiconductor chips. The one-point-five-billion-dollar Texas CHIPS Act was passed in 2023 to incentivize new semiconductor manufacturing in the state and to support the necessary research and workforce development at the state’s universities.

Texas has 57 semiconductor facilities statewide, employing more than 47 thousand workers in fabrication plants, materials manufacturing and R&D. Several new or expanded fabrication plants have been announced or have gone online in recent months. Texas lately leads the nation in exports of semiconductor chips.
